You would think the Italians are looking for a Rugby World Cup in the future with their last couple of tests in Monza, Florence, Genoa and Prato. With a A game in Livorno.

While the game in the North is stong in places such as Padova, Treviso Catania and Parma.

Places such as Milan, Turin and Rome need a boost that a World Cup can bring?

Which grounds could be used?

Would the Olympic Stadium in Rome be used for the Final or the San Siro in Milan?

Thoughts?
Could Italy host a Rugby World Cup in 2015?

Italy may be a perfect place for a WRC, since the attraction potential for tourism is exceptional and sport infrastructures are well distributed (for example, my city, Padova has a mondial-class stadium with 45000+ places currently underused ...a game every 2 weeks of "C" series with no more than 3000-4000 spectators) also the weather normally would be good and there are plenty of places for the stay of teams (Australia have chosen Italy for their all-sport home in Europe)

The problem is that soccer/football in Italy has an exagerate political weight, proctically absorbing most of sport federation (CONI) resources and all the media , and one should also consider the strict liason between football & politics , with current Premier and media tycoon also president of Milan FC ... in practice IF the football people will feel an WRC as a competitor or "intruding" on their business, will be nearly impossible to organize anything.

But 10 years is a long time , and I hope that Rugby will grow in importance, also given the current state of football, the actual situation is for sure not granted.

jpw , The idea of a world cup in italy is fascinating but our rugby needs few more better results to be supported and have the power to organize the event. Perhaps if we won a couple of match in the next 6 nations ( i am sure we ll win in irland )............
By the way Catania is in sicily not exactly in north
