Riflessione sull'esodo di giocatori

It's that time of year. That time when all the best players from the south decide which of the big leagues to go to up north to bolster their pension fund, while all the unions and teams down south have a good old moan about unfair monetary competition before unearthing a new generation of excellence ready to take it to the north and serve it with sauce.

Meanwhile, hordes of Brits and Irish are coming to the end of another Island 'spring' and wondering whether their agent might not be able to find them a rugby season culminating, say, in the sun of Languedoc-Roussillon rather than the mizzle of Reading.

Kiwis are particularly angry with the Irish, which seems a trifle odd being as most of the signatures being confirmed are to France.

But the glaring gap in the skies is that of the flock often seen with golden feathers and green tails. Matt Giteau, Luke Burgess and Mark Chisholm are the only three set to move north after the World Cup thus far and out of those three, only Giteau is really a current bona fide starter.

All others in the current Wallaby squad seem either to be staying, or getting ready to stay.

The effect of this? Well, in the short-term, nothing. But while New Zealand, South Africa and others will spend the two years after the World Cup rebuilding, it seems Robbie Deans - also set to stay by the way - will spend the four years heading towards 2015 with perhaps the most settled international squad of all time. Wallabies for the 2015 World Cup and avenging England's conquest on England's turf? Right now, we wouldn't dare bet against it...

Credo che ciò che porta a sottolineare quei fatti, sia un lavoro impressionante (e impensabile anche solo 4 anni fa) da parte di Robbie Deans: ha creato un gruppo di 20 giocatori che può andare avanti almeno altri 5 anni insieme.
Poi gli ha dato entusiasmo e ha trasmesso tutte le conoscenze necessarie per trasformare un gruppo di ottimi giocatori in uno di giocatori da test match (parliamo sempre di una nazione con 2 Coppe del Mondo e 2 Tri-Nations vinti e quindi con grandi ambizioni e standard qualitativi richiesti).

E un paio di settimane fa, John O'Neil (chairman ARU) ha dichiarato che il lavoro di Robbie Deans non è ancora finito e non sarà finito nemmeno dopo il mondiale.

Sicuramente non vinceranno, ma io credo che se l'Australia dovesse arrivare a giocarsi anche "solo" una finalina 3°-4° posto, Deans sarebbe riconfermato almeno per un paio di anni.

Non so se l'ho già scritto, ma credo che l'Australia sia l'unica nazionale a poter mettere in discussione quella che sembra la scontata vittoria All Blacks, già da ora.

Naa.. non stavolta.
Sarà strafavorita nel 2015, ma stavolta non c'è pezza. L'esperienza conterà tantissimo...

Io spero in una finale NZ - Australia, così da poter tifare apertamente, ancora una volta, contro la Nuova Zelanda, ma sicuro della sua vittoria.
E soprattutto perché per due volte è stata una "finale anticipata" (di un turno) e non è la stessa cosa... (certo dava soddisfazione uguale )

I Lions x tradizione sono sfigati
Cmq è ora che l'Australia porti a casa risultati ed anche la tournee di Novembre non e che sia stata entusiasmante ... vedremo ... sulla carta hanno un potenziale enorme, ma già da un paio d'anni ed ancora i risultati non arrivano.
Il Tri Nations sarà un bel banco di prova!
