 ITALIA - INGHILTERRA “A” finisce 17 a 10 per le inglesi

 Si è giocato a Londra in un campo reso molto pesante dalla pioggia, l'incontro tra Italia e Inghilterra A.
 
 Se le inglesi sono scese in campo determinate ad ottenere una vittoria dopo la sconfitta per 21 a 8 subita il 29 gennaio scorso contro la nazionale statunitense, le italiane cercavano una conferma della loro crescita dopo la sconfitta all’ultimo minuto patita il 22 ottobre scorso a Treviso contro il Galles per 14 a 11.
 
 Le padrone di casa sono passate in vantaggio al 17’ con una meta non trasformata della terza linea Lois Moulding e pochi minuti più tardi la velocissima ala Emily Cooke andava ancora a segno con una meta, questa volta trasformata dal mediano di apertura inglese Alice Richardson. Prima del riposo le Azzurre accorciavano le distanze con una meta del capitano Licia Stefan.
 
 Purtroppo solo tre minuti dopo l’inizio del secondo tempo l’estremo inglese Vicky Massarella, giocatrice titolare nella rosa della prima squadra inglese e di ritorno dopo alcuni infortuni che la avevano tenuta lontano dai campi di gioco, ha segnato ancora portando il risultato sul 17 a 5 per le padrone di casa. Al 58’ del secondo tempo andava ancora a segno l’Italia con una meta di Elena Sartorato e iniziava da quel momento un vero e proprio assedio alla linea di meta inglese con le azzurre sempre nell’area dei 22 metri avversari. Gli sforzi delle azzurre non hanno però prodotto altre segnature e l’incontro si è chiuso sul risultato di 17 a 10 per le padrone di casa.
 
 Alla fine dell’incontro l’allenatore inglese Bennett ha dichiarato: ”Buona prova dell’Italia che nel secondo tempo ci ha sottoposto ad una grande pressione proprio quando la nostra disciplina stava venendo meno e ha messo a dura prova la nostra linea difensiva. Per essere onesti nel secondo tempo la nostra difesa è stata eroica se consideriamo che è stata battuta una sola volta!”

 England A Women bounced back from defeat against the US Eagles with a well-earned 17-10 victory over Italy at a rain-soaked Imber Court on Sunday.
 
 Amanda Bennett’s side were made to work hard for the win though with the feisty, well-drilled Italians pressurizing the English defence to the death. In the end, however, it was England’s three tries to the Italian’s two touchdowns that proved decisive.
 
 Driving rain and a muddy-pitch made playing conditions tricky from the first whistle and it took 17 minutes for the deadlock to be broken. The score came courtesy of Worcester forward Lois Moulding who took the points after some sustained pressure upfront by England.
 
 The conversion was missed, but the home side stretched their lead further just minutes later when super speedy Clifton winger Emily Cooke pounced on the ball to charge up-field and score. This time Worcester fly-half Alice Richardson made no mistake with the conversion.
 
 Italy clawed back some points just before the break with a try from captain Licia Stefan, leaving England with a seven point advantage. But Saracens’ Vicky Massarella, returning to action after a foot and quad injury, soon put England back on track with a try just three minutes after the restart. Replacement Katy McLean set-up the full-back, who charged under the posts to score.
 
 A 58th minute Angela Tagliaferri try, scored again from another forward drive, saw Italy on the scoreboard for a second time, but despite a barrage of attacking moves in the home side’s 22 the tourists could not break down England’s staunch defence to steal the victory.
 
 England A head coach Bennett said: “It was really important for us to get a win, physiologically as much as anything. We got three tries and in the first-half we were moving forward well with the ball. We needed to make a step-up after losing to the USA two weeks ago and that is what we have done today.
 
 “Much credit should go to the Italians though, who really took the second-half to us. They pushed us hard when our discipline let us down and really battered our defensive line. To be honest in that second-half our defence was heroic, considering it only cracked once.”
 
 Bennett added: “It was also great to see Vicky back on the field. To play 80 minutes after a series of injuries and in these conditions is fantastic. She bagged herself a try and made some impressive breaks so I am very pleased for her.”

 quando sarà la coppa europa? bisogna anche in campo femminile conquistarsi sul campo il diritto a partecipare aiu vari campionati del mondo/sei nazioni!!

 Queste ragazze stanno dimostrando sul campo partita dopo partita di meritarsi più attenzione non solo da parte della federazione italiana, ma da tutto il mondo della pallaovale femminile.... l' IRB dovrà prendere atto dei risultati della nostra nazionale! Battere la Francia A a casa loro è il prossimo traguardo... e poi il 6 nazioni sarà ad un passo.
 Perchè magari non giocare anche contro la Spagna???
 Cosa succederebbe con una nostra vittoria??....

Da notare che il giorno prima la Spagna aveva perso 3-86 in casa contro l'Inghilterra nella seconda giornata del Sei Nazioni. Non conosco il divario tra Inghilterra ed Inghilterra A ed è difficile fare paragoni, ma la proprietà transitiva sembra suggerire che le azzurre sono in questo momento almeno al livello delle iberiche.

 Scotland's women suffered their second defeat in the Six Nations with a 5-0 loss to Wales, although Gil Stevenson was pleased that his side showed significant signs of improvement.
 
 The loss added to a 23-3 defeat to France at Murrayfield last weekend.
 
 "We had chances to score and to be honest I feel we had the best of the game," said Stevenson. "It was absolutely a better performance than last week but a lack of accuracy let us down. We need to get that sorted before we play England at Murrayfield in two weeks time."

I wouldn't say any player stuck out in particular because this win was an all round good team performance. However, the forwards' dominance in the set-piece was impressive and we put Spain under a lot of pressure on their own line-out and scrum."
 
 In the weekend's other game, France also kept up their 100% record with a 32-0 win over Ireland in Montauban.
