Moody free to take on the Sharks
Tuesday January 24 2006
England star free to get his eye in
England flank Lewis Moody will be available for Leicester's encounter with Sale Sharks on Saturday even though the game falls within what was assumed to be the perimeters of the suspension he is currently serving.
Moody: England star free to shake out the cobwebs

Moody was hit with a nine-week ban after being sent off for exchanging blows with Samoa's Alesana Tuilagi during the November internationals and was not expecting to be eligible for selection until January 29 - this Sunday.

But the Six Nations committee, which handed down the sentence, has admitted that "it had made a mistake" by saying the ban would end on January 29.

According to the committee, the nine-week ban was only meant to include eight Saturdays.

The committee also claims that the written judgment of the disciplinary committee which heard Moody's case stipulated that the suspension would end this Friday - January 27.

The official disciplinary release received by this publication makes no mention of specific dates or number of Saturdays.

It read: "Lewis Moody, the England openside wing forward, also sent off by the referee for repeatedly punching an opponent, has been suspended for nine weeks having also admitted the offence."

The release was dated November 28 - nine weeks ago this coming Monday.

The happy and unexpected conclusion for Moody and for his country is that the 27-year-old will be able to shake out the cobwebs ahead of England's Six Nations opener against Wales on February 4.

The blunder reflects poorly on the Six Nations committee and is sure to raise suspicions, but neither England nor the Rugby Football Union are said to have been involved in the disciplinary process.

There will be no complaints from England coach Andy Robinson, however, who is sure to monitor Moody's performance against Sale closely in order to assess his availability for the Twickenham date with the Welsh.

If Moody is fit, he could retain the No.7 jersey because the most likely alternative, Pat Sanderson, has been sidelined since Christmas with a back problem.

Se no chissà cosa tirano fuori l'anno prossimo! C'ho un po' di nausea antisportiva :-|
