Jan. 8 (Bloomberg) -- The Super Bowl was the most-watched
live sports event on television in 2007, beating out the last
race of the Formula One season, according to a London-based
media consulting company.
The Indianapolis Colts' win over the Chicago Bears in the
National Football League's title game drew an average audience
of 97 million, 19 million more than watched Ferrari's Kimi
Raikkonen win the Brazilian Grand Prix to clinch the Formula One
auto racing title, Initiative Sports Futures said.
The study cited research from 54 countries.
While 90 percent of its audience comes from the U.S, the
Super Bowl is consistently the most-watched sports event in
years when there are no Olympics or major soccer tournaments,
Initiative said.
AC Milan's win over Liverpool in the Champions League final
was the most-watched soccer game last year with an average
audience of 72 million, more than double that for the rugby
World Cup final between South Africa and England.
